Friday, June 20th, 2008

Marlet is a Phillipine born woman, who is married to a American. Her blog A mother’s simple thoughts is basically a mix of her personal life details, beauty & fashion tips and sponsored posts. If you remove paid posts from this blog then it makes for a good reading. Marlet is like me, serching the web for new things and new experiences. Whatever she finds out, she shares it with her readers.
In her post What kind of a blogger are you?, Marelt lets us a peek into what type of a blogger she is and tells you how you can find out your blogging traits.
As I said above, Marlet offers a lot of health and beauty tips. Particularly interesting tips are about How to makeup Japanese Eyes. These tips shows how to enhance the traditional oriental look. Many Japanese women prefer to do makeup in western style, but these tips will appeal to those who look to preserve what they have been endowed with.
Overall a well kept and well maintained blog.

Free Widgets for Blogger

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I have found out that if I go looking for widgets and plugins for my wordpress blog, there is no dearth of new ideas and inventory. But blogger doesn’t have many innovative widgets, and that’s why I don’t like to work on blogger. My quest for some good and free widgets for my blogspot blogs took me to Widgets For Free. Its is a storehouse of very useful blogger widgets. For example, you can put a Contact me widdget, which allows your reader to contact you through a form in just one click.
I also liked the Random widget which John has put on the upper part of his left sidebar. When you click on this widget, it will take you to some random post and you can continue clicking till you find a post that interests you.
Another of my favorite is Review my blog widget. You get to write a review right there on the blog when you click on this review my blog icon. This is similar to leaving comments.
The widget inventory is very vast and you will definitely find something of interest here.

A Review of Webringnet

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

This is a review of webringnet. The blog has a lot of information on different blog contests, and making money through blogging. There is post on organic links, which directs you on how to make your blog grow and gain page rank. I also use some of the methods described in the post while others are new to me. Another post worth mentioning here is Preventing Adesense fraud. The post tells you in detail how to make your blog/ site own-click-proof. You need to install some software like greasemonkey to prevent your won site’s clicks being counted on adsense. I have heard many people complaining on forums that google penalized them for no fault of theirs. The blog tops on google search for the keywords prevent adsense click.
On a personal front, I was delighted to see a matched.co.uk ad on the blog. I have had no luck with the site. Every time I log into my account, I see a message” We are trying to match an ad to your page”.But its heartening to see that people are getting ads through matched.co.uk.

+: You learn new ways to monetize your blog and better your blog. .
- : English need improvement. Grammar is really poor.

Etsy.com: A Store for Handmade Crafts

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I came across Etsy while stumbling the sites. I liked what I saw and added it in my favorites on stumble upon. Etsy is an online store where one can sell and buy hand crafted materials such as scarves, gifts, pottery, belts, bags, soaps, candles, clothes etc. Registration is free. Buyer doesn’t have to pay a fee to the store whereas if you are selling, then you pay 20 cents per listed item and a 3.5% fees on sold items.
Why I like the site:Unlike e-bay or other buying-selling sites, etsy is dedicated to promote handcrafted stuff which is unique and trustworthy. As one seller points out, the big corporations like Wal mart have wiped the handmade products. But those who value quality over quantity, and who want to stand out in the crowd still buy products that have an individual identity.
